Here's some things about me you might want to know:

I Love Being A Teacher Because:
One of my favorite parts of teaching is seeing the change that takes place within the child throughout the year. When they arrive that first day of school in September, they are often nervous, shy, afraid, and unsure of themselves and their abilities. These same children in June appear to be more confident, secure, and self-assured. I know that as a teacher I have the ability to take part in this change. Knowing that they are one step closer to seeing what they are capable of is incredible.

I Have Taught 10 I began my education in 1999 working as a pre-school teacher with Head Start here in Salem. I held several positions at Head Start from Family Advocate to Site Supervisor. I found myself missing the classroom and wanting to be back working with kids. So, I went back to school and obtained my Master of Arts in Teaching degree and have been teaching ever since. Years

I Was Born In:
Houston, Texas

I Grew Up In
different parts of the country. I have lived in Texas, Georgia, New York, and Washington. I finally landed here in Oregon to go to college and have never left.

I Went To College At:
Willamette University where I earned both my Bachelor of Arts degree and my Master of Arts in Teaching

My Favorite Color Is:
Blue

My Favorite Vacation Spot Is:
Disneyland and Disney World. I also enjoy spending time on the Oregon coast camping.

My Favorite Food Is:
steak and chocolate

My Family Is:
My husband, Roger, my son, A.J., and my two Boxer dogs, Dixie and Rocky.

The Pets I Have Are:
My boxer dogs, Dixie and Rocky.

My Hobbies Are:
camping, softball, Oregon State football games, and spending time with my family.

My Favorite Unit To Teach Is:
reading. I love being a part of that moment when a child is able to comprehend what they have just read. The excitement and joy they show is such a wonderful sight. When they realize they have just opened up a door to a whole new world. . . it's energizing.

I Love Abiqua School Because:
of the family-like atmosphere. I have felt welcomed and part of the team from my very first day here. I am looking forward to a great year!

My Educational Philosophy Is:
based on the theory of a student-centered classroom. Students should be challenged to think for themselves and encouraged to become problem solvers in the world around them. As a teacher, I want to make sure that I am providing each one of my students with the best possible learning environment. I am considerate of every child's needs and assist them in reaching their potential, whatever that might be. I incorporate parent input in my classroom as much as possible to ensure that we are helping to bridge the gap between school and home. It is my objective to adapt my lesson plans and activities to meet the needs of all students. I want students to emerge from my classroom energized and read for the challenges that will come their way. I want them to learn the problem solving skills necessary to be successful in all they do.
