To be honest, I didn’t want to become a teacher. I originally wanted to be a newspaper editor or cartoonist (the only problem being that I can’t draw). However, when I was fourteen and living in Romania with my family, I began teaching English weekly in a small Gypsy colony and found that I loved teaching. I continued teaching English—both in the colony and in a local kindergarten—and expanded my horizon to include teaching crafts and other subjects for programs in Romania, Mozambique, and Albania, as well as locally.
