Ever since I can remember, I have loved helping others. I grew up knowing that I could make a difference in the world if I chose the right path for me. I had teachers that inspired me to become a teacher. Some of those teachers inspired me because they were compassionate, nurturing, and guided their students to learn. Some of them inspired me because I felt disconnected from them and felt they didn’t “love” their job or the students in their classes.
In high school, I decided to try the student aid program as an elective and helped teach in a math class. I knew this was what I wanted to do with my life. How could a job be so much fun and so fulfilling? The passion I have for teaching is what inspired me all through high school, college, and continues to inspire me now.
After college, I worked at a small private school in Salem, St. Vincent de Paul, as a third and fourth grade teacher. It was an amazing experience with a supportive principal who is still a dear friend to me. I came to Abiqua because the mission of the school matches my mission as a teacher and I knew that I would have the support that I needed to reach my potential and be the best teacher I could be. I have been at Abiqua for 9 years and continue to work here with the support of the staff and my personal endeavor to excel as a teacher.
I love sunflowers, snowmen, and turtles. Camping and hiking are my favorite ways to spend time with family. For me, reading a book is like being under a spell…I never want to put it down.
